Will Vinted or eBay report me to HMRC?

Since 1 January 2024, selling apps and websites such as eBay and Vinted have had to send HMRC details of sellers who make 30 or more sales, or receive more than €2,000 (about £1,700), in a calendar year. Being reported isn't a new tax and doesn't on its own mean you owe anything.

Not tax or financial advice. A simplified guide based on GOV.UK. Check HMRC's own online-income tool or ask an adviser if you're unsure.

Check one platform

Use your figures for one app or website for one calendar year. Nothing you type leaves this browser tab.

1. What did you do on this platform?
2. In the calendar year…
The legal limit is in euros. If you enter pounds we can only compare against GOV.UK's "about £1,700", so answers near £1,700 are marked as borderline.
3. Might you owe tax? (for the second part of the answer)

Do I have to pay tax?

Each platform decides who it reports, so check its own messages. This tool can't see your account. The tax part is a rough guide: whether you're "trading" depends on your situation. If in doubt, use HMRC's free checker.
